Hay or roughage should form the basis of a goat’s diet, with
additional concentrates to help maintain condition and for growth
or milk production. Adult goats will usually eat at least 1-2kg
of hay a day (more if grass or other feedstuffs are not available),
but milkers will often need nearer 3.5kg of hay a day. For a goat
that isn’t producing milk, 0.5-1.0kg of concentrate a day
should be enough to maintain condition, and this should be split
between 2 or 3 feeds.
